Russia today recorded a new record for daily deaths from COVID19 with 1,239 deaths, according to data from the operational center for the fight against coronavirus, which also reported 39,256 new infections last day.
The highest death figures were recorded in Moscow (97), followed by Saint Petersburg (70) and the Moscow region (53).
The new record for daily deaths is the third recorded this week in Russia, Where according to official data since the beginning of the pandemic, 254,167 people have died from covid-19, although official statistics on excess deaths in the same period almost double this figure.
The Russian authorities attribute the sharp increase in infections and deaths in recent weeks to the aggressiveness of the delta variant, the lack of strict compliance with sanitary rules by many Russians and, above all, to the low vaccination rate in the country.
So far, in the pioneering country when it comes to registering its own anticovid vaccine, only 57 million 961 thousand 578 citizens have received the complete vaccination schedule, which places herd immunity only at 49 percent of the 80 percent that the authorities aspire.
Given the worsening of the epidemic situation, the Government has sent the In parliament, a bill to implement the mandatory use of a health pass in public places and transport.
The initiative contemplates giving health passes to vaccinated people, who were overcome by COVID-19 and to holders of a recent negative PCR test.
The health pass will not be required to visit pharmacies, grocery stores and basic necessities.
However, the document will be mandatory to use transport, including travel by train and plane, both regional and international.
According to the bill, it will be the Russian federated entities that decide the exact list of establishments in which the health pass will be required.
