Regions scale down regular care due to increase in corona patients | Inland

In North Brabant, appointments for, among other things, knee operations will be canceled in the coming week. Acute care can continue, says a local ROAZ spokesperson after previous reporting from Omroep Brabant. In the Elisabeth-TweeSteden Hospital (ETZ) in Tilburg, there was a plan to make up for delayed care during the weekends. “There is a good chance that that will not work anymore.”

According to ROAZ Region West, the number of corona patients in the Haaglanden and Hollands Midden regions is also increasing to such an extent that the capacity for this group of care recipients is being scaled up, further than has been arranged with the National Coordination Center for Patients Spreading (LCPS). “This has direct consequences for the care in all seven hospitals in this region.” A spokeswoman could not yet state the number of victims as a result. “Regular care will have to be scaled down to make staff available for Covid care,” the organization said. Every hospital tries to continue regular care as much as possible, but according to the spokeswoman, that will not always work. For example, delays may occur.

“The attending physician makes an assessment for each patient as to which care should continue. Outpatient care can still continue at the moment. However, it can differ per hospital which care can still be provided,” according to the ROAZ. “We are now really on our toes with the speed with which we have seen the number of patients increase in recent days. If this continues, we will double the number of clinical patients within a week,” says Martin Schalij, chairman of ROAZ West. “Unfortunately, we still see many people in hospital who have not been vaccinated.”

There are 72 patients in the wards in the region, two more than there are currently available beds, and 20 in an intensive care unit. The ROAZ wants to have 85 corona beds available on Friday evening and 100 later.
