Regionalliga Südwest: SSV Ulm 1846 football is back

Unimpressed by the discussions about right-wing extremist activities, Ulm wins 2-0. What that means for the summit meeting with Offenbach on Saturday

Johannes “Jo” Reichert assured us in a conversation with our editors this week that the Sportschau report on alleged or actual right-wing extremist activities among the supporters was not a big issue in the team of the SSV Ulm 1846 Soccer and that the players will certainly not be unsettled by it. The captain can feel confirmed: Unimpressed by the vortex, the Ulm team won 2-0 after only one point from three games against SG Sonnenhof Großaspach and thus created the conditions for a real summit with the Offenbacher Kickers on Saturday (2 p.m.) .

As so often, patience was required against the SG Sonnenhof-Großaspach. The guests were down with two back four, the task of the Ulmer, who initially played without a nominal striker, was to somehow crack this bulwark. There were chances to do so in first half for Robin Heußer, Adrian Beck and Jannik Rochelt, but they were not used. On the contrary, even Sonnenhof-Großaspach could have taken the lead, but after almost fifteen minutes Nicolas Jüllich headed the crossbar.

After the break, it got a bit tougher, but it now worked for the Ulm team on the offensive: Nicolas Jann intercepted a kick, quickly played down to Adrian Beck, who ripped the ball into the lower right corner to take the lead (58 .). “The can opener”, commented the Ulm coach Thomas Wörle, whose protégés only came to other top-class players in the final phase of the game. Robin Heusser had the biggest chance two minutes before the end of regular time, but guest keeper Max Reule reacted splendidly. A few seconds later, Heusser was illegally prevented from completing and something like that is in Ulm as is well known, a case for the captain. Reichert converted the 911 and it was all over.

It was not a playful revelation, that was primarily prevented by the guests with their destructive gait. Nevertheless, in the summit meeting with Offenbach on Saturday, a little more can come from the sparrows. With the win in the catch-up game, they got down to one point on their title rivals from Hessen, but Offenbach played one game less. Nevertheless, Ulm would hibernate with a victory as the championship leader – an important psychological aspect. There are different perspectives on the currently very different demands of the two title rivals: Offenbach has not played for almost two weeks, so the team is rested, but possibly not in the rhythm. Ulm had to play last Sunday and again on Wednesday. Such a schedule is of course exhausting, but it also ensures that a team remains in competition mode.

By the way, Jo Reichert assumes that the title fight in the Regionalliga Südwest will not be decided on Saturday anyway, especially since Mainz is at least involved. It will probably stay tight well into the new year and maybe even until the end of the season. The Ulm captain hopes for equal opportunities, currently he does not see this guaranteed due to the different corona regulations. Offenbach played against Elversberg on the penultimate weekend in front of more than 5000 spectators, and only 750 visitors will be admitted to the Donaustadion on Saturday for the summit meeting. The timing of the league, it’s at least an unfortunate one.

SSV Ulm 1846 Fußball: Ortag – Allgeier, Geyer, Reichert, Stoll – Kiefer, Jann (70. Wähling), Rochelt – Beck (84. Harres), Heußer (90. Kundruweit).
