Grünau’s race to catch up against Grödig remained unrewarded.
On Saturday Austria Salzburg won the first city derby for more than nine months against the SAK. The violets prevailed in the well-attended Max-Aicher-Stadion (due to the large number of spectators, the kick-off was even ten minutes late) at the start of the Salzburg Regionalliga with 3-0.
The guests from the Nonntal were able to design the first 20 minutes relatively openly. With the goal to lead 1-0 more and more Austria Salzburg took control. Alexander Schwaighofer took advantage of the confusion in the SAK penalty area after a corner kick, calmly stopped the ball, straightened it and shot a dry shot. Despite their superiority and good chances, Austria could not add another goal until the break.
Ex-SAK keeper prepared the 3-0
After the break, the SAK found their way into the game better, but were also lucky that Marco Hödl only hit the post shortly after the restart. In the final phase, however, the captain struck two more times. Only after a pass from Raffael Kogler did he nibble on his guards, which is worth seeing, and SAK goalie Benjamin Morawitz didn’t have a chance either (84th). Shortly before the final whistle, after a long pass from goalkeeper Manuel Kalman, he irresistibly moved towards the SAK goal and fixed the 3-0 final score (94th).
Grünau met Alu twice
The second Saturday match in the Salzburg Regionalliga offered suspense right up to the last minute. At the beginning everything looked like a safe home win for Grödig. Milos Savic gave the hosts the lead against Grünau (25th) and made it 2-0 shortly before the break (39th). In return, Maximilian Pössl scored the connection goal for the guests. At the beginning of the second half, Grünau had bad luck with two aluminum goals before captain Thomas Pertl scored to equalize with a penalty (78th). The cheers were short-lived. After a corner, the substitute Danijel Vucanovic headed to the spot (83rd) and made it 3-2 for Grödig. Grünau threw everything forward again in the final phase, but the renewed equalization did not want to succeed anymore.
