Regional Public Health recommends caution despite the introduction of the vaccine passport

Now is not the time to relax health measures despite the introduction from 1is September of the vaccine passport, insists the director of Public Health Gaspésie – les Îles, Yv Bonnier-Viger.

He believes that the rapid progression of the Delta variant of COVID-19 should be taken seriously since it is much more contagious than other mutations in the virus.

Doctor Bonnier-Viger fears that the implementation of the vaccination passport will give a false sense of security to people who have been adequately vaccinated.

According to him, the appearance of cases associated with the Delta variant in almost all regions of Quebec explains the government’s decision to apply the vaccine passport from one end of the province to the other and not in the most affected localities, as was planned before.

Dr Bonnier-Viger points out that many details have yet to be determined before the deadline and that the terms may change during this time.

The regional director of public health does not plan anytime soon for the lifting of health instructions such as wearing a mask in closed public places and physical distancing of one meter.
