Like every Friday since the filing of the lists of candidates for regional elections, News Nice and Marseille news come back to the five pieces of information of the week to remember to stay abreast of this campaign full of twists and turns in Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur. Back on what happened this week, from May 31 to June 4, 2021.
1 / Yannick Jadot visited Jean-Laurent Félizia in Marseille
From the start of the electoral campaign, the ecologist MEP Yannick Jadot wanted to move to Marseille (Bouches-du-Rhône), Tuesday 1is June, to visit Jean-Laurent Felizia, top of the list of Ecological and social gathering.
The meeting took place at Saint-Charles station and continued with a visit to the company Dualsun, a manufacturer of solar panels in the 13e borough. Then, Yannick Jadot, Jean-Laurent Félizia and the activists went to the Old Port to distribute leaflets, meet and discuss with the inhabitants of the city. “We will ensure that Jean-Laurent Félizia and his large gathering are very high in the first round so that we have far fewer complicated questions to ask on the evening of June 20,” said the MEP to the press.
2 / A speech by Jean-Laurent Félizia to bring down his opponents, Renaud Muselier (LR) and Thierry Mariani (RN)
Monday, May 31, 2021, Jean-Laurent Félizia made an appointment near the regional hotel to make a statement. During this, the candidate representing the Ecological and Social Rally did not hesitate to criticize his opponents Renaud Muselier (LR) and Thierry mariani (RN). Back to a passage from his statement:
“Our region deserves better than this spectacle: an old system, the worst of the old politics. I do not accept this masquerade: a bad play performed by two old barons of the local right, who have spent thirty years of political careers together, with the same parties, the same friends, the same practices. Muselier and Mariani are two old traveling companions who want the power to continue everything as before. These are notables who spend their time turning over their jackets ”.
At the end of this speech in which he denounces “a false opposition”, Jean-Laurent Félizia called to join his party to “build a peaceful, united, citizen Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur region”.
3 / A week full of controversy for Thierry Mariani (RN)
There is no doubt that Thierry Mariani (RN) has made a lot of noise since the start of this campaign. This week, the candidate from Vaucluse was invited to France Bleu Azur, and described the youth engagement of Philippe Vardon, his running mate from Nice, as “sympathetic”. As a reminder, this elected representative in the Alpes-Maritimes is a former member of the ultra-right group which was dissolved after the attempted assassination of one of its members against Jacques Chirac in 2002. This RN municipal councilor was also sentenced for reconstitution of dissolved league and incitement to racial hatred, as pointed out nice morning.
But this is not the only controversy this week. Thierry Mariani (RN) was also talked about when the Chained duck revealed that the candidate was officially domiciled in a studio in Avignon that he would rent to Anne-Sophie Ringolt, one of his running mate. A documentary evidence which allowed the candidate to register on the electoral rolls of the Paca region… but he still has to be able to present two consecutive opinions to justify his candidacy. However, still according to the Chained duck, Thierry Mariani (RN) would only have a council tax notice for 2020, and nothing for 2019. This would not enter into the regulations to be able to stand in a regional election.
And the twists and turns don’t end there. The current president of the Paca region, Renaud Muselier (LR), filed a complaint Monday, May 31 against the candidate RN for “Fake news”, had reported nice morning. What pushed the candidate for his re-election to seize the prosecutor: a series of tweets published by Thierry Mariani (RN). Among them, messages evoking the supposed hiring of 77 people in the office of the president of the region and in communication.
Faced with these statements, Renaud Muselier (LR) recalled having recruited “80 people in charge of rail safety” and defended himself: “Thierry Mariani has been peddling this lie since the start of his campaign. For a month he has been setting up a climate of Fake News ”. Thursday, June 3, it is his rival’s turn to react with a video posted on his Twitter account:
4 / Student associations alert applicants
Mardi 1is June, several student associations in the Paca region have, by means of a press release, alerted the politicians in the middle of the electoral campaign to remind them of the importance of “youth policies”. They demand that the latter be “at the center of regional concerns.” This is all the more true with regard to the health crisis that we have just gone through and the social crisis which is the consequence ”, we can read.
Together, these federations of the Paca region have established a “youth contribution” in order to present to the various candidates the proposals in order to improve the living conditions of the students.
5 / A mess of polls with different results
Polls in Paca continue to interfere with the campaign, with varying results.
Monday evening, an Ifop-Fiducial survey for Le Figaro and LCI still gave Thierry Mariani in the lead of the first lap but this time, Renaud Muselier would win in the event of a duel in the second round with 51% of the vote.
Only a few days later, Thursday evening, an OpinionWay poll for Cnews shows the opposite. Thierry Mariani would have even more lead in the first round with 42% of voting intentions against 32% for the Republican candidate. He would even win in the second round in the event of a duel with 52% for the RN candidate.
