Regional curfew? Tuesday clarity about package of risk regions

Especially in the Rotterdam-Rijnmond region, things are not yet going well with the infections. Week on week, the number of new infections in the Rijnmond region fell by 3 percent compared to the previous week, but today the number of infections in the region rose again. The region has the highest number of infections in our country.

Regional curfew

“We have to keep an extra eye on these risk regions in the coming days”, Minister De Jonge told RTL Nieuws. “If the decrease is not sufficient, additional measures are needed.” The cabinet will take the plunge on this next Tuesday. In addition to the Rotterdam-Rijnmond region, this also applies to the risk regions of Twente, West Brabant and South Holland South.

Whether there will be a press conference or a press moment on Tuesday is not clear.

Curfew?

One of the extra measures could be a regional lockdown. The cabinet can choose to impose a curfew or to close shops and schools. If there were curfews in those places, it would likely be between 10pm and 4am.

“We have to think about everything and will also discuss this with the House of Representatives,” said De Jonge.

Coronapakket

Last Tuesday, the cabinet announced that a package of extra measures could possibly be deployed for the most affected regions, where the contamination figures will not go down. “Perhaps that is necessary in a single region,” said Minister De Jonge. If the numbers don’t drop, the pack will turn on.

A national package of additional measures has also been deployed to reduce the number of movements and contacts. That extra package applies for the next two weeks. The existing measures will remain in place until mid-December, Prime Minister Mark Rutte announced.
