Regional Court confirms Adrian de la Garza’s victory in Monterrey

Mexico City. The Monterrey Regional Chamber of the Electoral Tribunal of the Federal Judicial Branch (TEPJF) confirmed the victory of Adrián de la Garza, of the PAN, PRI and PRD coalition, in Monterrey, Nuevo León, by rejecting the annulment of the election promoted by the former MC candidate Mariana Rodríguez, since the evidence analyzed did not corroborate the intervention of elements of the state prosecutor’s office to alter the will of the citizenry, nor was political gender violence proven against the influencer and wife of the governor of said state.

In a public session, the plenary approved by majority the project sponsored by presiding magistrate Claudia Valle Aguilasocho, with a dissenting vote by magistrate Ernesto Camacho, who vehemently expressed his disagreement and even suggested that one of the incidents reported in the local electoral process is “like a kind of terrorism.”

The burning of a councilwoman’s car, he said, “goes beyond the idea of common crimes, it is like a kind of terrorism, and it is aggravated if we understand that this is attributed to a state agency (security elements) whose fundamental purpose is to seek justice, to defend citizens.”

During the discussion, he also showed images of a man, a relative of a candidate, who was beaten a week before the election day on June 2.

Valle Aguilasocho, while acknowledging that some of the incidents were serious, supported the ruling issued by the Electoral Court of Nuevo Leon, proving that there was no evidence of irregularities perpetrated by security elements, specifically acts of violence, pressure or intimidation against the electorate and that this influenced the exercise of voting.

Nor, he said, was it proven that political violence based on gender was exercised against Mariana Rodríguez in a “generalized, systematic” manner and that it was decisive for the result of the elections. And it was also not proven that Adrián de la Garza exceeded the campaign spending limit.

In another matter, the Guadalajara Regional Chamber of the TEPJF unanimously ratified the victory of the MC member Verónica Delgadillo as mayor-elect of Guadalajara, Jalisco.

In a public session, the magistrates described as ineffective and unfounded the grievances argued by José María Martínez Martínez, candidate of the coalition Sigamos haciendo historia and the Hagamos party. Among the alleged inconsistencies raised by the complainants are irregularities in the polling stations; violation of the chain of custody in 100 electoral packages; and the violation of constitutional article 130 regarding the separation of Church and State, due to statements by Cardinal Emeritus Juan Sandoval Íñiguez.
