STEYR. The Council for Research and Technology for Upper Austria (RFT OÖ) has been supporting Upper Austria for many years. It will be an important source of impetus, especially in the area of technology development and the mobility transition, ”explains State Minister for Economic Affairs and Research Markus Achleitner.
“The BMW engine plant in Steyr is a central control plant for Upper Austria as a business and technology location. Recently, 127 million euros were invested in the plant in Steyr, and the BMW Group is also relocating a large part of its previous engine production from its main plant in Munich to Steyr. In the BMW Group plant, not only is production of combustion engines being expanded significantly, but also expansion in the field of electromobility. A 25 million investment in the field of housing production for electric drives is an important impetus in the direction of future technologies. This also means an important strengthening for Upper Austria as a location, because we want to drive innovations in the area of mobility. Therefore, an important expansion of the competence of the Council for Research and Technology for Upper Austria is that BMW-Steyr boss Alexander Susanek is now also contributing his specialist knowledge and experience to an internationally successful group, ”emphasizes Provincial Councilor Achleitner.
“It is very gratifying to be able to welcome such a profound expert in Alexander Susanek to the council. For successful research and technology development in Upper Austria, it is necessary to keep getting new ideas and perspectives on board, ”explains Stephan Kubinger, Chairman of the RFT Upper Austria. Alexander Susanek has been with the BMW Group since 2014 – since this year as Managing Director of the BMW Group Plant Steyr.
