Regional Council creates Public Interest Group to fight against medical deserts by paying doctors

It was one of the campaign promises of outgoing President Laurent Wauquiez during the regional elections of 2021: to pay doctors in order to fight against medical deserts. The Public Interest Group (GIP) was officially created on Monday April 3, in Lyon, by the Regional Council. The first two departments are part of this GIP, and they are logically the most rural: Ardèche and Cantal.
Financed by the CPAM, the communities involved and European funds, this GIP must pay doctors according to the hospital grids, that is to say between 3,700 and 7,000 euros. The contracts signed are two-year fixed-term contracts, renewable only once.

The hope of elected officials is that after these two or four years of employment, practitioners will be tempted to set up as a liberal in the territories. The advantage of the latter, in addition to employment, is to benefit from existing structures to begin with.
The effort initially concerns general practitioners, but subsequently medical secretaries, nurses, medical specialists, midwives or physiotherapists will also be able to benefit from the GIP, indicated Laurence Fautra, the regional vice-president in charge of health.
“It’s the local network that allowed us to promote, but we rely on external partners. The ARS has just brought us a potential application, ”said Marie-Hélène Roquette, departmental health adviser.

Haute-Loire joins the system

During its last session, on March 27, the Departmental Council of Haute-Loire validated its membership of the system supported by the Region. As part of this approach, the three countries – Lafayette, Veley and Jeune Loire – have come out in favor of setting up a steering committee with the Departmental Council. The organization’s first work will relate to the definition of priority areas and the new partnerships to be entered into (CPAM, ARS, Council of the Order of Physicians).
