More and more hospitals in the region are reporting blood shortages. The reason for this is the declining number of blood donations. “Basically, less and less donations are made in summer. But since fewer donors can come to the donation dates due to the Corona, we have less blood, ”says Thomas Haugg from the BRK-Augsburg-Land. Corona also causes restraint. Dr. Michael Küchle, the medical director of the Wertach Clinics: “We often only get 20 percent of the amount ordered”. This is enough to maintain emergency care in general, but many ORs that can be moved are postponed. “The situation is not yet serious,” said Küchle.
