What do you remember from Gotlands 2023?
Region Gotland’s annual report contains information about many important events and decisions on and for the island. Here is some of the content, but there is much more to read in the annual report:
- Major challenges and a serious tone marked 2023. Inflation and high interest rates made the year difficult for all of Sweden’s municipalities and regions, including for Region Gotland.
- 2023 was also the year when Svenska kraftnät decided to build two new electricity cables to Gotland. The pipelines, which are expected to be operational in 2031, will be crucial to the important energy transition on the island.
- Due to the troubled global situation, 2023 was also the year in which Region Gotland made the decision to lay off all employees in their regular positions. This means that all employees within the region must continue to go to work, even if a war situation breaks out.
- At the end of the year, bacteria were discovered in the Visby water supply network. As a safety measure, a boil recommendation was introduced for everyone with municipal drinking water in Visby and the surrounding area.
The preface to the annual report is written as “Our story”. There, Meit Fohlin, chairman of the regional board, and Stefan Hollmark, regional director, talk about the past year.
Despite major challenges in our operations, the 2023 employee survey shows a stable and positive result where job satisfaction, dedication and pride in working in Region Gotland has increased significantly. Region Gotland’s employees are our most important resource and all the work they do contributes to a sustainable and prosperous society on Gotland,” says Meit Fohlin, chairman of the regional board.
