Regio: Labor market in February: Slight decline – 4,233 men and women in the agency district without work – unemployment rate unchanged at 3.8 percent

The number of unemployed in the district of the Freiburg Employment Agency fell slightly in February. As of the reporting date, a total of 14,233 women and men were unemployed in the city of Freiburg and the districts of Breisgau-Hochschwarzwald and Emmendingen. That’s 58 people less than a month
before. The unemployment rate is unchanged at 3.8 percent.
For women and men under the age of 25, the rate is 2.4 percent. For a month of February the development is unremarkable.

“The spring upswing has not yet started, but the mild weather has helped the job market. That’s why we register slightly fewer unemployed. I’m happy about that,” says Theresia Denzer-Urschel, CEO of the employment agencies in Freiburg and Offenburg. The situation among the long-term unemployed, who are
outperformed the market as a whole, both year-on-year and month-on-month. “We invest a lot in prevention, look after our target groups intensively and work closely with other authorities and institutions, sometimes even under one roof and with our own identity. It pays off
out,” says Denzer-Urschel. Despite the difficult economic situation, the demand for labor remains high. Drivers were primarily reported vacancies for skilled workers in the areas of education, administration, office and secretariat, warehousing and transport as well as sales. At the helper level, numerous job advertisements from the cleaning trade attracted attention. “Companies are worried about bottlenecks
in workers. This concern outweighs the risks of hiring staff in an uncertain economic environment,” says Denzer-Urschel. Due to the onset of spring recovery, she expects a further decline in unemployment in the coming months.
