Reggio Calabria Municipal Elections, particularly high turnout in the ballot: the figure at 23:00
Urns closed, provisionally, for the ballot that sees each other Antonino Minicuci (Center-right) e Giuseppe Falcomatà (Center-left), for the race for Mayor of Reggio Calabria: at 23:00 this evening they were well 59.442 Reggio who have already voted, equal to 40,42% gods 147.063 entitled, in slight and physiological decrease compared to 49,47% same time as the first shift. In any case, this is a very high figure, considering the nature of the ballot which collects only one vote of opinion compared to that of the first round, more linked to the drag effect due to the numerous candidacies of the aspiring directors on the lists (and in Reggio fifteen days ago there were 914 people in 32 lists). This time, however, we vote only for the Mayor: in the first round the two challengers of the playoff had collected overall 66,929 votes, of which 35.109 (equal to 37,17% preferences) for Falcomatà e 31.820 (equal to 33,69%) per Minicuci. A number that will be largely exceeded tomorrow, with a definitive turnout that promises to be well above 50%, equal to then 75 thousand voters, beyond all expectations.
Voter turnout in the ballot: the precedents of Messina (2018 and 2013), Rome and Turin (2016)
A Messina, the ballot that elected Mayor in 2018 Cateno De Luca in the challenge with the candidate of the Center-right Bramanti saw a turnout of the 39,29%, in sharp decline compared to the figure of the first round which had been of 65,01%, very similar to that of Reggio Calabria a fortnight ago. Also in the Peloritan city it was the ballot that led to Palazzo Zanca Renato Accorinti five years earlier, in 2013: the leader of the No Ponte movement won against the Democratic Party candidate Calabrò with a turnout of 45,81%, also here in decline (but more slight) compared to 48,05% of the first round.
Other important and recent cases of ballots are those of Roma e Torino in 2016, with the election of the two grillini mayors Rays e Hanger against the candidates of the Democratic Party supported by the center-left coalition Giachetti e Ash, both defeated. In Rome the turnout in the ballot was of 50,19%, down from 57,21% of the first round. Decline – albeit more contained – confirmed in Turin where for the play-off he went to vote on 54,41% of voters in the face of 57,17% of the first round.
In Reggio Calabria, we will have to wait until tomorrow for the definitive figure. The ballot boxes – in fact – will also remain open tomorrow, Monday 5th October, from 7:00 am to 3:00 pm, when the ballot will start immediately, which we will follow live with a special on StrettoWeb.
