Reggie Jackson almost retired

In October, Reggie Jackson will begin his sixth season with the Pistons. But his career could have ended in the summer of 2018 since he considered retiring, when he was only 28 years old.

In high performance sport, the mind is just as important as the physical. If the head does not respond, the injuries follow one another and performance drops. This is particularly the case of American footballer Andrew Luck who has just announced his retirement, dragged into a depression because of numerous injuries.

Earlier in his career, Reggie Jackson also had a very complicated time, so much so that he was very close to quitting basketball at the end of the 2017-2018 season.

The leader has indeed had to face injuries preventing him from speaking on the floors. In the 2016-17 fiscal year, he only played 52 games, while he only played 45 the following season. A very difficult situation to manage for the leader who was then caught in a depression. He returned to this difficult moment for The Detroit News.

A few years ago, I thought my future was to retire after that season. I was just too injured, I was hit with depression and it was a time when I didn’t want to play anymore. Rather, it was the injuries that started to make me think about retiring.

Fortunately for him, this story is behind him since he was able to participate in the entirety of last season without knowing the slightest physical glitch. He looks forward to the next season with serenity without thinking about the injury.

I’m happy to be in a good mood and to play ball this year. We will think about it from there. I am very excited about what we can do this year.

Honestly, the pace I’m trying to keep up is that of the last two or three months of last season. This is where the game became easy, where I didn’t force anything and took what I was given. We were more comfortable overall as a team. I’m just trying to enjoy each day, the team I’m on and the opportunity that God has given me and everything that He has prepared for me.

The next year will be decisive for the future of Reggie Jackson. Indeed, after signing a five-year contract for $ 80 million with the Pistons in 2015, he will be free agent at the end of the season.

Reggie Jackson has had difficult times in previous seasons, but luckily he was able to lift his head. Hopefully his body will leave him alone for many years to come.
