Reggae legend Lee ‘Scratch’ Perry passed away

Revolutionary reggae artist and producer Lee “Scratch” Perry has died aged 85. This was reported by various media in his home country of Jamaica.

Perry died in a hospital in Lucea, northern Jamaica, reports The Guardian. The cause of death is not yet known. Jamaican Prime Minister Andrew Holness expressed his “deepest condolences” to Perry’s family.

The musician was a founder of roots reggae and still played together with that other reggae legend, Bob Marley. With his dub productions, he was a major influence for other genres such as hip-hop and dance.

Perry was also a welcome guest at Belgian events such as Reggae Geel. He even worked a few years ago together with the Belgian band Pura Vida.
