Regent of Purwakarta Acknowledges No Concealment of Polio Case – ANTARA News West Java

The Regent of Purwakarta, West Java, Anne Ratna Mustika, admitted that she had never concealed the discovery of a positive case of polio in a four-year-old girl in her area.

“From the start we did not cover up,” said the Regent in Purwakarta, Sunday.

He said that this was a lesson so that his party would continue to conduct outreach and education about the importance of complete immunization for children.

For the handling of polio cases, his party will follow up on the instructions of the Ministry of Health. Among them by being aware of the spread of viruses that can be transmitted through feces and sending samples of Accute Flaccid Paralysis (AFP) to the ministry.

It is stated that polio is a disease of a virus that is transmitted through feces (bowel movements). So it can be prevented with a simultaneous polio vaccine. In addition, of course, with a clean and healthy lifestyle.

Anne appealed to all Purwakarta residents not to defecate in the open, try to defecate in healthy and clean latrines.

Head of the Surveillance Team for the West Java Health Service, Dewi Ambarwati, said the polio case in Purwakarta was caused more by the incessant search efforts.

His party continues to monitor and be aware of the potential for the spread of polio following the finding of one positive case of polio in Purwakarta.

“From the samples sent on March 14, 2023, the West Java Health Office and the Purwakarta Health Office received reports that the results were positive for type 2 VDVP polio virus. The sample was from a girl aged 4 years and 5 months, a resident of Cadas Bodas Village, Tegal Datar Village, Maniis District,” he said .

Meanwhile, for the handling of polio in Purwakarta, Dewi said that her party together with the Purwakarta Health Office, the Indonesian Ministry of Health, and WHO had gone down to Tegal Datar Village, Maniis District, Purwakarta to carry out polio epidemiological investigation steps.
