Regent of Morut Says TKA Was Attacked First in PT GNI’s Deadly Clashes

Regent North Morowali (Morut) Delis Julkasson Hehi mentioned the clash at PT Gunbuster Nickel Industri (GNI) was initiated by an attack by Indonesian workers against foreign workers (TKA). He also said there was looting at the employee’s daughter’s dormitory.

“Please clarify the information, okay. The TKA were attacked first, then clashes occurred. In the midst of this clash, there were elements who took advantage of the opportunity to vandalize and loot the TKI female employee dormitories,” said Deli Julkasson Hehi, as reported by BetweenMonday (16/1/2023).

Clashes occurred between employees of Indonesian workers (TKI) and foreign workers at PT GNI, last Saturday (15/1/2023). As a result, two workers, 1 TKI and 1 TKA respectively, died. While nine other people were injured. Deli suspects that there was a provocateur that sparked the incident.

“I deeply regret and even strongly condemn the action which is suspected to have been triggered by provocateurs from outside who brought other agendas,” said Deli.

Deli strongly condemned the riots. He wants investors not to leave his district.

“We want the presence of investors to manage the potential of the area for people’s welfare,” he said.

As many as 70 people have been detained by the police for questioning and questioning regarding their involvement in the riots. Head of Satpol PP Morut Buharman Lambuli acknowledged that until this Sunday afternoon the situation around PT GNI was quite conducive, but all parties were still on guard to prevent a repeat of the previous incident.
