Regent of Meranti Islands Suspected of Corruption by KPK

Regent of the Meranti Islands Muhammad Adil become a suspect in a case corruption. From the articles alleged by the KPK against Adil, there are various prison threats.

Last Friday (7/4) last night, KPK deputy chairman Alexander Marwata explained that there were three cases related to Adil Regent from the Riau Archipelago Province.

The three clusters of cases are the 2022-2023 budget cuts, allegations of revenue corruption fee from services travel umrah, and allegations of giving bribes to condition the financial audit in 2022 at the Meranti Islands Regency Government.

Apart from Adil, there are other people who have been named by the KPK as suspects in the above cases. They are Head of BPKAD Fitria Nengsih and BPK Deputy Riau Examiner M Fahmi Aressa.

The following are the articles alleged by the KPK against Regent Muhammad Adil:

As a bribe taker

Law Number 31 of 1999 as amended by Law Number 20 of 2001 concerning Eradication of Corruption

– Article 12 letters f and a

Threat of imprisonment: For life, or a minimum of 4 years and a maximum of 20 years.

Article sounds:

Sentenced to life imprisonment or imprisonment for a minimum of 4 (four) years and a maximum of 20 (twenty) years and a fine of a minimum of Rp. 200,000,000.00 (two hundred million rupiah) and a maximum of Rp. 1,000,000,000. 00 (one billion rupiah):

a. Civil servants or state administrators who receive gifts or promises, even though it is known or reasonably suspected that the gift or promise was given to mobilize them to do or not do something in their position, which
contrary to its obligations;
f. Civil servants or state administrators who, when carrying out their duties, request, receive, or withhold payments to civil servants or other state administrators or to the general treasury, as if the civil servant or other state administrators or the general treasury have debts to them, even though it is known that it is not a debt;

– Article 11

Threat of imprisonment: Minimum of one year and maximum of five years.

Article sounds:

Everyone who commits a crime as referred to in Article 418 of the Criminal Code, shall be punished with imprisonment for a minimum of 1 (one) year and a maximum of 5 (five) years and a fine of at least Rp. 50,000,000.00 (fifty million rupiah) and a maximum of 250,000,000.00 (two hundred and fifty million rupiah).

The Corruption Eradication Commission has named Meranti Islands Regent M Adil as a suspect in allegations of corruption, budget cuts and service gratuities travel umrah, and financial auditor bribery. (Rifkianto N/detik.com)

As a bribe giver

Law Number 31 of 1999 as amended by Law Number 20 of 2001 concerning Eradication of Corruption

– Article 5 paragraph (1) letters a and b

Threat of imprisonment: Minimum of one year and maximum of five years

Article sounds:

(1) Shall be punished with imprisonment for a minimum of 1 (one) year and a maximum of 5 (five) years and or be fined a minimum of IDR 50,000,000.00 (fifty million rupiah) and
250,000,000.00 (two hundred and fifty million rupiah) at the most each person who:
a. giving or promising something to a state official or state administrator with the intention that the said state official or state administrator does or does not do something in his position, which is contrary to his obligations; or
b. give something to a civil servant or state administrator because of or in connection with something that is contrary to obligations, done or not done in his position

– Article 13

Threat of imprisonment: Maximum 3 years

Article sounds:

Any person who gives a gift or promise to a civil servant bearing in mind the power or authority attached to his position or position, or the giver of the gift or promise is considered attached to that position or position, shall be punished with imprisonment for a maximum of 3 (three) years and or a fine 150,000,000.00 (one hundred and fifty million rupiah) at most.
