Regensburg – SSV Jahn Regensburg started the new second division season with a win. The footballers from the Upper Palatinate won 2-0 (1-0) against SV Darmstadt 98 on Saturday.

In front of 8509 spectators, Joshua Mees (1st minute) gave his team the lead in the Jahnstadion shortly after the kick-off, Andreas Albers (67th) scored the second goal.

Jahn got into the game well. A few seconds after the kick-off, Regensburg took the ball, and a low cross from Nicklas Shipnoski across the penalty area to Mees gave the early lead. The team coached by Mersad Selimbegovic had more of the game at the beginning and from the 36th minute after a yellow-red card for Darmstadt defender Patric Pfeiffer they even played outnumbered for a long time.

Darmstadt got into the game better in the second half – Magnus Warming (52′) couldn’t take advantage of his chance a few meters in front of the goal, Marvin Mehlem (63′) put the ball from 20 meters to the left of the goal.

Then Regensburg used their superiority: A long ball from Benedikt Saller landed in Albers in the penalty area, who defeated keeper Marcel Schuhen on the second try. The home side should have increased with Prince Owusu (74th) and again Albers (76th).
