Regensburg: Five children sing “Foreigners out” in burger shop

In a Regensburg burger joint, five children sing “Foreigners out.” The dark-skinned owner confronts them and throws them out of his shop. Later, first the children and then their adult companions apologize – but they still don’t get a burger.

In Mike Hairstons „Rollin Kitchen“ in Regensburg There are seven different burgers, as well as fries and nachos, of course. For the start of school on Monday, he added the “Kids Burger” to the menu as a special offer – to please the youngest children and perhaps also to win a few new customers.

On the same day, the dark-skinned man – he has an American father – was racially abused by several children who chanted “Foreigners out” in his snack bar, as the “Mittelbayerische Zeitung” first reported.

Five children between the ages of six and eight came into his shop accompanied by two adult women, Hairston told WELT. As they were about to order, the two women went out the door again – the children did a kind of polonaise, shouting the slogan “Foreigners out”. “I was stunned, shocked and speechless and didn’t know how to deal with it,” he remembers.

He collected himself for a moment and then asked the children if they were serious and said: “I don’t want to hear anything like that here and I won’t tolerate anything like that.” He asked them to leave. The two adults were surprised – and then left with the children.

Despite apologies, no burgers

Ten minutes later, the children came back alone and apologized. He had the impression that one of the younger ones in particular really regretted the slogan. “I accepted their apology. But they still didn’t get any burgers – otherwise their behavior would have had no consequences.”

About an hour after he reported the incident with an emotional post on his Instagram profile When he made public a statement entitled “No Place for Racism”, the two women returned without children and also apologized.

Hairston emphasized to WELT that the children were not banned from his snack bar. “As the police put it, I once ordered them to leave.” That was the end of the matter for him. Of course, it still bothers him.
