Regensburg, September 26, 2022 – The “Highlights of Physics” science festival kicked off on Saturday evening with the full concert “James Bond in the sight of music” by physics professor Metin Tolan, president of the Georg-August University of Göttingen, together with the symphony orchestra of the University of Regensburg. Over 40,000 visits on the site and online have been counted.
For a week everything in the historic center of Regensburg revolved around the theme of physics. In addition to the classic questions like “Why is the sky blue and the banana yellow?”, There was a focus on quantum physics. In the large hands-on exhibition on Neupfarrplatz, visitors were able to experience high-tech topics from physics live and talk to experts. In various scientific shows such as “Physics for pedestrians” with the physicists of Regensburg URPHI, the experiments were presented to passersby in a spectacular way. Visitors were able to attend several lecture series free of charge. One of the highlights was the evening lecture “Climate change and energy transition – there is a lot of physics involved” by Prof. Dr. Harald Lesch. With the new format “Physics in the pub”, physicists presented current research topics in a relaxed atmosphere in various bars in Regensburg.
Pupils from at least 9 federal states went to participate in the “exciting physics” physics competition. A colorful children’s program completed the event, from the children’s theater to the magic school, everything was there.
As the grand finale of “Highlights of Physics”, Metin Tolan put James Bond in the sights of the music. Together with the University of Regensburg Symphony Orchestra conducted by Arn Goerke, he gave a fun look at the physics behind the dangerous stunts and wacky tech gadgets of the world’s most famous secret agent, while the orchestra performed some of the best known music titles such as “Goldfinger”, “Skyfall” or “Live and let die” out the James Bond movies introducedAnd.
