Roy Suryo Policed to Polda Metro
The former Minister of Youth and Sports, Roy Suryo, was officially reported to the Polda Metro Jaya today. He was reportedly linked to a Borobudur Temple meme that was deemed to have insulted Buddhists.
“So today, we represent Buddhists reporting the alleged criminal act of the ITE Law related to the issue of religious symbols. The Reported Party has uploaded an upload of Borobudur Temple,” said the reporter, Herna Sutana, at Polda Metro Jaya, Jakarta, Monday (20/6).
Herna said what Roy Suryo did was considered to have insulted Buddhists. The reason is that the upload of the Borobudur Temple meme that is spread through social media is not just a picture of a stupa.
“We also clarify that what was edited there is not a stupa but a statue of the Buddha and it is a religious symbol that is very sacred to our religion,” he said.
The reporter also mentioned the role Roy Suryo who uploaded the meme on social media. He considered Roy Suryo’s actions to be the trigger for the meme to go viral in the community.
According to Herna, according to the rules, Roy Suryo’s actions in spreading the uploads can still be charged with the ITE Law.
“The ITE Law also explains who produces, transmits and distributes, disseminates, uploads, so that it can be accessed easily in general. The person concerned has follower this lot couldn’t have exploded this much if it wasn’t uploaded by someone whofollower a lot,” said Herna.
