The Xunta advances in the processing of the green hydrogen plant promoted by Reganosa and EDP Renovables in As Pontes with the publication this Monday, in the Official Gazette of Galicia (DOG), of the announcement by which the request for integrated environmental authorization, the environmental impact study, the declaration of public utility and the project.

As of this Tuesday, April 4, a period of 30 working days opens for the examination of the documentation and the possible presentation of allegations or observations.

The initiative, declared a strategic industrial project (PIE) by the Consello da Xunta last September, has a budget of 156 million euros and foresees the creation of a hundred jobs in the exploitation phase — between direct and indirect –.

The project consists of a green hydrogen production plant with a planned nominal capacity of up to 100 MW –it will be carried out through several phases until a final scale of 100 MW–, and by the lines and substations necessary for the electrical supply. plant, as well as the pipelines for the distribution of hydrogen, both for injection into the gas transportation network and to direct customers.

FIRST PHASE OPERATING IN 2026

The objective is that the first phase is operating in the year 2026 and the last before the year 2030.

The declaration as a strategic industrial project allows the reduction in half of the deadlines –except those related to the presentation of applications and appeals– while maintaining the technical, legal and environmental guarantees.

The promoters intend to develop the use of renewable hydrogen for different end users -from individuals to industry, including uses in the area of ​​mobility- and, the Xunta emphasizes, “contribute both to the decarbonisation of the energy sector and to promote a Area especially affected by industrial relocation, such as the As Pontes town hall, one of the municipalities that is part of the just transition agreements.

In addition, it is one of the projects selected in the Renewable Energy, Renewable Hydrogen and Storage Part.
