Singapore

Coercion of tourists at tourist attractions is happening in Singapore. A group of Chinese tourists were abandoned because they did not want to shop for souvenirs.

Reporting from VN Express on Friday (23/8/2024), a group of tourists booked a trip from a Chinese travel agent for 10 days to Southeast Asian countries.

On August 16, they plan to travel to Little India. After visiting the temples, the tour group was asked to shop for souvenirs prepared by the bus driver to double as a guide.

The tourists refused. They continued to refuse until then they asked the driver to apologize.

Instead of making peace, the driver became more emotional and dropped all the group’s luggage, leaving them on Race Course Road for four hours.

The tourists then lodged a complaint with the Chinese Embassy in Singapore. The report was accepted. Then, the embassy sent buses to help the tourists.

The Singapore Tourism Board (STB) has announced that they are investigating the matter.

“The STB will not accept any behavior that disrespects or puts tourists at risk. We will not hesitate to take action against operators involved in bad tourism practices ,” said the group.

“We are committed to maintaining Singapore’s reputation as a safe and welcoming destination for all travelers,” STB said.
