The former president waved to the assembled press as he left Trump Tower in New York for the short drive to the attorney general’s office, which is also in Manhattan.
Trump has now made a statement that he would not answer questions in the interrogation, according to the Reuters news agency.
– I refused to answer questions as every citizen is entitled to according to the US Constitution, Trump said in the statement.
Furthermore, it says that Trump himself has previously asked the question “If you are innocent, why do you fail to answer?”, but that he now writes “now I know the answer to that question”
– When your family, your company and all the people around you have become the target of an unfounded politically motivated witch hunt, supported by lawyers, prosecutors and the Fake News media, you have no choice, quote New York Times Trump from the statement.
The questioning is being referred to as a decisive turning point in a long-running investigation into Trump’s business dealings.
According to the New York Times, there is a lot at stake for Trump, who has been trying to avoid an interrogation for several months.
The interrogation is not linked to the search of Trump’s residence in Florida on the night of Monday.
