Aaron Ramsdale is one of the big stars at Arsenal this season. The closing post came over from the relegated last summer Sheffield United, but he had to take drastic steps to do so. Ramsdale saw how Sheffield asked 45 million euros for him.
It wasn’t nearly as bad as Ramsdale wouldn’t have been under the bar at all with The Gunners this season. Sheffield wanted to receive 45 million euros for him, although Ramsdale himself did not understand it at all. “The amounts that were thrown into the world really made no sense at all,” he says in the program The Cycling GK, a show by goalkeeper Ben Forster. “I was totally stunned. 45 million, we were relegated… That made no sense.”
An agreement between Arsenal and Sheffield seemed impossible due to the price tag of 45 million euros, but then Ramsdale decided to take action. “They said they would let me go with a good offer,” he continues. “But they turned down good offers after that.” Ramsdale went on to refuse to work. “I didn’t train for days. The manager thought I would go back to goalkeeping, but I told him this was not an option.”
In the end, Sheffield gave in with an amount of 35 million euros for the English keeper.
