Krefeld. The hall will be open to schools and clubs again in mid-February

The gymnasium on Lübecker Weg in Krefeld-Uerdingen, in the immediate vicinity of the Uerdingen comprehensive school, is about to reopen for good after a renovation phase of around one and a half years. The gym was briefly accessible again in September, but was then closed again due to water damage. Release for use is now planned for mid-February.

The hall was renovated inside and out

The complete renovation was preceded by the development of a fire protection concept and a pollutant report. In the first step, the building and technical materials contaminated with asbestos were rehabilitated and the insulating materials containing pollutants were removed. In the second step, the roof and the rainwater drains were replaced, among other things. The entire building services, such as radiators, sanitary facilities, ventilation technology and electrical installations, including the fire alarm system, have been brought up to the current state of the art. The hall was also modernized from the inside: A new light dome provides better daylight and light wood paneling for a friendly, modern appearance. In addition, the hall floor including the impact protection on the walls was renewed. A safety and health protection coordinator accompanied the entire conversion. The costs for the renovation of the gym are a total of 2.6 million euros.

Rachid Jachou, head of the ZGM: “A modern and sustainable gym”

The double gymnasium on Lübecker Weg was built in 1979 and used as refugee accommodation from 2015 to 2018. Today, the Uerdingen comprehensive school, the branch at Lübecker Weg 56 and the Edith-Stein elementary school share the sports facilities. In addition, various clubs train in the newly renovated hall. As manager of the central building management, Rachid Jaghou is pleased about the completion of the construction project: “The renovation of the hall means that a modern and sustainable sports hall is now available for mass sports.”
