The Luppmenweiher is subject to the Stauanlagengesetz (StAG) and cantonal supervision.
Due to a remediation order from the Office for Waste, Water, Energy and Air of the Canton of Zurich (AWEL), the community as the owner is obliged to implement the conditions in the order.
The redevelopment order is about a non-functioning debris collector.
Debris collector to reduce flood damage
The municipal council has approved a corresponding loan for the development of a study on bed load remediation.
Debris collectors hold back gravel, stones and floating material in streams in order to reduce flood damage in settlements and on infrastructure such as bridges and culverts.
They hold back debris even during small floods, which can be drained away without causing damage.
A loan for the renovation was approved
Since the debris collectors are not only dilapidated and brittle, but also filled with debris, they have to be emptied and renovated.
In its meeting on February 15, 2023, the municipal council approved the awarding of the engineering work to the company Basler & Hofmann AG, Esslingen, and approved a loan of 20,000 francs (including VAT) for the preparation of a study on the bedload remediation of the lower Luppmenweiher .
The variant study is then submitted to the AWEL – and if necessary to the Federal Office for the Environment (FOEN) – for examination.
After approval of the test, a corresponding preliminary project is drawn up. The approval of a preliminary project will be submitted to the municipal council for approval later this year.
