In the first four months of this year, 29,132 asylum applications were submitted to the Federal Office for Migration and Refugees (Bamf), 29 percent less than in the same period last year, the “Bild am Sonntag” reported.
In April there were only around 4,100 Asylum seekers. A year ago there were more than twice as many. Most of the migrants came from Syria, Afghanistan and Iraq, according to the report.
The EU also recently reported a significant decline in asylum applications. According to the European asylum authority Easo, 43 percent fewer applications were registered in March than in February.
