Sorties
For the fifth consecutive year, and with a view to deconstructing received ideas and prejudices on the question of migration and refuge, the refugee week is being organized in Strasbourg from June 10 to 18, 2023. Animations, culinary events and awareness-raising workshops will punctuate the event. Among all these activities, the Refugee Food festival which starts this Thursday, June 15, and which promises to be particularly rich and gourmet.
Co-supported by the City of Strasbourg, the association Foyer Notre Dame et l’association Stamtish, the week of refugees, which mobilizes around fifty actors from the territorystarted this weekend in the Eurometropolis.
A worldwide phenomenon that continues to increase, the question of exile and refuge unfortunately remains too often misunderstood and controlled in France. What is a refugee, a migrant, a stateless person, a rejected person? Where do these people come from and why? How are they received, where and under what conditions? It is to all these questions that this week will try to answer through a multitude of events, in a positive and caring atmosphere.
Exhibition to change perspectives, discoveries of new cultures, conferences and round tables to exchange and debate: in addition to all these activities offered until June 18, this Thursday will begin the now unmissable Refugee Food festival. We tell you more.
The great return of the Refugee Food Festival
From June 15 to 18, 2023, the Refugee Food Festival makes its comeback in Strasbourg. Four days during which partner restaurateurs and artisans will lend their kitchens to refugee chefs. Originally from Syria, Georgia or Turkey, they will share their culture, their know-how and their skills with us, and will help change people’s perceptions of the issue of exile over a good meal.
Created in 2016 by a parisian association, the Refugee food festival is an international event taking place simultaneously in several cities around the world. It has been worn for several years in Strasbourg by the association stamtish, whose objective is tohelp migrants and refugees, who are too often victims of discrimination and racism, to integrate professionally into the catering industry.
This festive event is an opportunity to highlight their cooking skills, to offer them an enriching field experience and to create links with local restaurateurs and artisans. It is an extraordinarily rich moment of sharing around cooking and culinary culture, which has the power to bring together people from all walks of life for a meal!
A rich and ambitious program for this 2023 edition
This year again to prog should hold its share of surprises and whet your taste buds! Alone, in pairs or even in trios, the chefs of the Stamtish brigade and the partners of this edition are in the process of developing the menus that will be offered (each time with a veggie option).
The festival will take place in 7 different locations: at Petites Cantines for a Turkish cooking workshop, at Honesty for a magnificent Franco-Syrian trio, at Orée 85 for a Syrian aperitif, at Pecora Negra for an Italian-Georgian alliance and at Kooma for the final banquet. A little new, the artisan specialist in éclairs, Donatien will be offering Turkish-influenced éclairs all week long, on site or to take away.
Each year the festival is full and places are limited. We therefore strongly advise you to reserve your table as soon as possible so as not to miss a beat. Reservations are made directly with the restaurants for the day and time indicated. We don’t know about you, but we are looking forward to it anyway!
