North Rhine-Westphalia’s Prime Minister Wüst said on ARD television that the minimum would be to get the same quotas as in 2016. According to the CDU politician, this would mean doubling the funds. In the past three months, more and more people have come from Afghanistan, Syria, Iraq and Turkey. This puts a strain on the municipalities, especially when it comes to accommodation. The current chairman of the Prime Ministers’ Conference, Lower Saxony’s Prime Minister Weil, made a similar statement. The SPD politician told the newspaper “Die Welt” that the municipalities rightly referred to their difficult situation. The topic will be put at the top of the agenda at the next prime ministers’ conference.
In Germany, over 200,000 people applied for asylum for the first time last year.
