Currently, after the death of their spouse, a widow or widower must decide whether they want to receive the benefit or the survivor’s pension. Widows usually live with their benefit because it is higher. Widows usually receive a survivor’s pension. Although it is 85 percent. the deceased’s pension, as it is usually more financially beneficial for them (women usually have lower pensions).
But how can you keep an apartment or a house and pay bills with less than one pension, when until recently there were two benefits? Widows and widowers have been calling for changes to the rules for years, but successive governments have not wanted to address this problem. The matter was taken into their own hands by trade unions from OPZZ, who collected signatures for a citizen’s bill including widows’ pensions and submitted it to the Sejm in the previous term.
As it is a civil initiative, despite a change in term of office, work may continue on it. The Social Policy Committee of the Parliament is expected to consider the project on Thursday.

After his death, his widow received a survivor’s pension of PLN 2,000. PLN 125 free. If a widow’s pension was introduced, she would receive the benefit and an additional half of the survivor’s pension. This means that PLN 2,000 could be transferred to her account. PLN 843.46 free.
