February 26, 2023 is the “First Sunday of Lent”. On this date a clear reference is made to the temptations that Jesus suffered in the desert. Temptations that can be summarized in three points:
• The relationship with God
• The relationship with people
• The relationship with the goods
“Lent” is a period of liturgical time of forty days that begins on Ash Wednesday (February 22, 2023) and ends on Palm Sunday (April 2, 2023). These 40 days symbolize the test that Jesus made by spending this period in the desert, just before his public mission.

The desert setting of Jesus closely resembles the expulsion of Adam and Eve from the Garden of Eden. In this way, the meaning of the forty-day test is better understood, in order to recreate, restore and redeem our human nature. They evoke the creative hands of God who gave us life. We must understand that we are not in the desert to die, but to strengthen ourselves and become aware of ourselves. It is a time of grace, restorative and full of love.

The text of the gospel of first Sunday of Lent presents us with the temptations of Jesus at the beginning of his public life. But immediately before he was baptized and “He saw the Spirit of God coming down like a dove and resting on him.” (Matthew 3,16). This means that Jesus is not just any person, but he has the Holy Spirit. To this change Jesus invited the people after the temptations, when he proclaimed: “Change your ways, for the Kingdom of Heaven is now near.” (Mateo 4,17).
