Referendum on prosecution of ex-presidents Mexico fails | Abroad

López Obrador asked the Mexicans whether they agree that five ex-presidents should be prosecuted for corrupt practices. Less than 8 percent of voters cast their vote on Sunday. Almost everyone answered ‘yes’, but for the referendum to be valid, a turnout of 40 percent was required.

Critics objected to the vote, because the president and the judiciary also take action without a referendum. It would just be a political stunt by ‘AMLO’ (Andrés Manuel López Obrador) and would have wasted a lot of effort and resources.
