Referee injures his head after colliding with a camera in a Betis and Athletic Bilbao match – Diario La Página – 2024-02-27 16:07:58

The line assistant, Guadalupe Porras, this Sunday had the biggest scare of her life at the start of the clash between the teams Betis and Athletic Bilbao, from the Spanish League. The assistant collided with a television camera when she returned to the center of the field after validating Chimy Ávila’s goal in the 13th minute of the match being played at the Benito Villamarín stadium.

Initially, it was unknown what had happened when Guadalupe found herself on the grass with a gap. The incident forced the crash to be stopped at that very moment.

Guadalupe Porras was treated by doctors from the Betis team and finally had to be replaced as she could not continue her duties in the League duel. The fourth referee, Holgueras Castellanos, had to take over from her on the Villamarín side while Guadalupe Porras left on a stretcher to be taken to the hospital and treated for her head injury.

The referee of the match, Cuadra Fernández, did not take long to inform Manuel Pellegrini and Ernesto Valverde of what had happened and the decision to continue with the match in that context.

The duel subsequently proceeded normally and the Benito Villamarín stands applauded the referee when she showed signs of feeling better as she left the field.

The two benches initially showed their concern about the physical condition of the assistant, who had to leave her role in the sporting event. Chimy Ávila had scored the first goal of the match just before the incident occurred.
