LIDO SOUNDS FESTIVAL: Does such a big three-day event fit in the middle of the state capital?
Almost 70,000 visitors were counted at the three-day LIDO SOUNDS Festival last weekend. The feedback was mostly positive, but stayed by the wayside but not only several thousand direct neighbors, but also countless residents in a wider areawho were stoned for three days. The city has already promised a second edition: “That’s not possible,” says MFG Linz district spokeswoman Petra Lindner. Before to aa new edition thought wearthneede it’s just a weigh-in allhe advantages and disadvantages. “This also includes examining alternative locations where this event, which is almost too big for the city centre, might be better off. In any case, the residents must be better involved in the future. That hardly ever happened this year,” says Petra Lindner, who also immediately suggested a possible new location brings into play.
Countless closed parking spaces, fences, barricaded sidewalks, bike paths and streets, rubbish, sound checks from 9 a.m. and from 12 p.m. full music program until late at night, plus a helicopter circling over the concert area from 3 p.m. to midnight:
This is how the first LIDO SOUNDS Festival presented itself to thousands of residents. The event site is in the middle of the city, less than 500 meters from Linz’s main square. The organizers were expecting 100,000 visitors – and one must almost be lucky that there were “only” just under 70,000. In many areas, however, the site reached its limits.
“The question of whether such a large event in the middle ofs The center of Linz fits, you have to face it. Alternative locations such as the port of Linz might make more sense.”

“There is no doubt that the event was a success from a certain point of view,” says Petra Lindner. However, success is not only measured by the positive voices of the visitors, some of whom traveled hundreds of kilometers, but also by the acceptance of the local residents and all those who were affected.
It was rumored in the media that the decision on a second edition in 2024 should be made at the beginning of July. “That’s not possible,” says Petra Lindner. Now a proper criticism of the maneuver is needed – including the involvement of the neighboring residents. In the end, there could also be the realization that the site is unsuitable for this purpose. Therefore, alternative locations must be considered in any case.
“The question of whether the center of Linz can offer space for such a large event must be asked.”
Petra Lindner names the port of Linz as a new destination: “The Bubble Days at the beginning of June impressively demonstrated that the port area is predestined for major events of this kind.” There are no residents there: “And the large meadow areas on the Danube are much better suited to the festival idea than the desolate asphalted area on the fairgrounds.” Lindner appealed to the mayor of Linz not to take hasty shots: “There is absolutely no reason for that.”
