Reece James Injury Update: Chelsea Captain Likely to Miss Games

London

Bad news is coming Chelsea early this season. The captain Reece James likely to miss a few games because of a hamstring injury.

The injury prevented James from playing in full when Chelsea hosted Liverpool at Stamford Bridge, Sunday (20/8/2023) evening WIB. In a match that finished 1-1, James was taken off in the 76th minute.

Initially, Chelsea manager Mauricio Pochettino denied that James was injured. James was replaced only because of fatigue and to avoid the risk of injury.

A few days after that fight, James’ condition did not improve and he had to undergo further examination. Apparently James’s hamstring injury recurred.

As quoted by the Evening Standard, James is doubtful when he visits the London Stadium this weekend to face West Ham United. To replace James, Chelsea will install 20-year-old young defender Malo Gusto in the right-back position.

Meanwhile, the temporary captain’s armband will move to Ben Chilwell who will become vice-captain. James’ injury is of course worrying for Chelsea considering he was in the treatment room a lot last season.

Quoted from Transfermarkt, James has suffered two knee injuries and two hamstring injuries, which made him miss 25 matches or half of the total average number of matches for Chelsea’s players last season.

James in the 2022/2023 season only made 24 appearances with two goals and two assists.
