There are basically two funding options: For a complete renovation, the KfW grants low-interest loans with repayment grants. The Federal Institute for Economics and Export Control (BAFA) supports individual measures with grants. According to the experts from Stiftung Warentest, the highest level of funding is for a complete renovation to become an efficiency house.
If at least 65 percent of the energy requirement is then covered by renewable energies, a low-interest loan of up to 150,000 euros and a repayment grant of up to 37,500 euros are possible. If it is a house with a particularly poor energy standard, the repayment subsidy can be up to 52,500 euros.
There is no KfW loan for individual renovation measures, such as thermal insulation or the replacement of windows and doors. The Bafa awards grants for this. The highest subsidy of 18,000 euros is available for heat pumps that use water, waste water or the ground as a heat source. If the pump replaces an old oil or gas heating system, there is a subsidy of up to 24,000 euros.
The subsidies for the renewal of the heating system are particularly popular with Bafa. If the new heating system replaces an oil, coal or night storage heating system or an old gas heating system, there is a “heating exchange bonus” of 10 percent. However, the new heating system has to generate heat using renewable energies.
The installation of a gas heater is no longer funded. According to the experts from Stiftung Warentest, there are no longer any subsidies for pure pellet heating either.
