Everyone can do it
A simple exercise can help reduce your risk of Alzheimer’s disease. Muir Gray, a British doctor and founder of the “Live Longer and Better” foundation to fight dementia, spoke about it.
According to the specialist, every day you need to do brisk walking for 30 minutes. Gray himself also practices the exercise.
“To reduce my risk of developing dementia, I walk briskly for 33 minutes every day—that’s the recommended 30 minutes, plus an extra minute for each decade after age 60 (I’m now in my 80s),” Gray said.
This type of exercise reduces the risk of developing atherosclerosis—thickening or hardening of the arteries. The disease can cause dementia, strokes and heart attacks. Fast walking also directly protects brain tissue, the specialist notes.
