JAKARTA, KOMPAS – The 26th Conference of the Parties on Climate Change in Glasgow, Scotland in early November could be a momentum to urge every country, including Indonesia, to make more ambitious efforts in overcoming the climate crisis. This more ambitious effort is needed so that the Earth is not trapped in conditions of worsening health risks, food crises, or disasters as a result of global warming that exceeds 1.5 degrees Celsius.
The latest report from the Lancet Countdown highlights the importance of every country to step up efforts to tackle the climate crisis that is more ambitious to prevent health impacts. This is because the climate crisis does not only have an impact on environmental and economic aspects, but also triggers an increase in the potential for outbreaks of dengue hemorrhagic fever, chikungunya, and zika. The moment of recovery after the Covid-19 pandemic can be a momentum to direct cleaner or low-carbon development. (Compass, 22 October 2021).
