Redmi Note 9 & Note 9 Pro: Xiaomi wants to dominate the entry level

After the Redmi Note 9S, Xiaomi draws two new smartphones called Redmi Note 9 and Redmi Note 9 Pro. The intention of the Chinese company is clear with this trio: to dominate the entry level.

Two months after formalizing the Redmi Note 9S, Xiaomi continues to flood the market for its phones. Like the Mi 10 range, the Redmi Note 9 family is available in three models, the last two of which were presented today. The Redmi Note 9 and Redmi Note 9 Pro thus complete the entry-level offer from Xiaomi. Visually, these smartphones look a lot like the Redmi Note 9S. An additional confusion which we would have done well, frankly.

Xiaomi strengthens its position on the entry level

The specifications of the Pro version are almost similar to that of the Note 9S, but have better options. Its main module is 64 megapixels instead of 48 megapixels, and this is unfortunately the only improvement on the side of the photo. In fact, the other three sensors are equal to those of the Note 9S. We thus find the ultra wide-angle of 8 megapixels, the macro module of 5 megapixels and, finally, the depth sensor of 2 megapixels. The Redmi Note 9 also offers four photo sensors. Its main is however 48 megapixels and it (too) is accompanied by an ultra wide-angle module of 8 megapixels. However, the macro module is only 2 megapixels, just like the depth sensor.

For performance, the Note 9 Pro has the Snapdragon 720G, like its Note 9S counterpart. The processor is associated with 6 GB of RAM and 128 GB of internal storage. A configuration which should logically offer the best performance for the family. The Redmi Note 9, for its part, skips Qualcomm and integrates a MediaTek Helio G85 chip, one of the last to date from the founder. The processor is coupled with 3 GB of RAM and 64 GB of storage. Both models opt for a 5,020 mAh battery. The difference lies mainly in the charging since the Note 9 Pro offers a fast charge at 30 W giving 57% of autonomy in 30 min. For the Note 9, it will be necessary to count on a fast charge at 18 W.

Finally, the two smartphones host an LCD panel. The Note 9 Pro version is similar to the Note 9S version, with a size of 6.67 inches and a definition of 2,400 x 1,080 pixels. The screen is punched in the middle and accommodates the same 16 megapixel sensor. The Note 9 display is a little smaller (6.53 inches) and its definition changes to 2,340 x 1,080 pixels. A punch is also present, but is placed in the upper left corner of the slab. It contains a 13 megapixel sensor. In terms of protection, the Pro version sports a fingerprint reader located on the edge, while the Note 9 has a reader placed on the back, under the photo modules.

The Redmi Note 9 and Redmi Note 9 Pro will be available from June 9. It will take € 200 for the first model and € 300 for the second. A refund offer will be launched by Xiaomi for any purchase of one of the two smartphones. The firm will leave it to the purchaser to choose his preferred protection between a shell, a tempered glass or a pack combining the two – up to a limit of 25 €.
