The Redmi 12 smartphone is now available in a 5G variant
The phone got a new chipset but lost one of the cameras
The main attraction can be the huge display and the pleasant price
The Redmi 12 smartphone line has grown today with a new member. After the Redmi 12 and 12C models comes the Redmi 12 5G, which already reveals its main innovation in its name – it supports fifth generation networks. Unfortunately, this additional element (compared to the basic Redmi 12) was redeemed by the manufacturer with one visible compromise.
The Redmi 12 5G is a great budget phone
At first glance, the Redmi 12 5G looks exactly the same as the basic Redmi 12 – the manufacturer has again used an elegant design with straight sides hugging a bulky body measuring 168.60 x 76.28 x 8.17 mm. These dimensions are primarily due to the deployment of a giant 6.79″ display with Full HD+ resolution and a refresh rate of 90 Hz (240 Hz for touch).
An 8MP selfie camera with an aperture of f/2.0 is hidden in the opening in the upper middle, and on the back we find the main compromise of this model. Although the number of protruding lenses may seem like the phone has three cameras like the basic Redmi 12, this is not the case. The manufacturer quite inexplicably dropped the wide-angle camera and left only the main 50 Mpx camera with an aperture of f/1.8 and a 2 Mpx depth sensor.
The heart of the phone is the Qualcomm Snapdragon 4 Gen 1 chipset with an eight-core processor and the already mentioned support for 5G networks. There will be several memory variants on offer, in the highest configuration you will get 8 GB of RAM and 256 GB of storage, which can also be expanded with a memory card. Lovers of traditional values will also be pleased with a 3.5 mm headphone port and an infrared sensor for controlling home electronics.
Other features include the fingerprint reader in the lock button and basic IP53 water resistance. The battery in the phone has a capacity of 5000 mAh and can be charged with a power of up to 18 watts, there is even a 22.5 watt charger in the package. The operating system is Android 13 with the MIUI 14 superstructure, for which the manufacturer promises two years of major system updates and three years of security patches.
Price and availability
The Redmi 12 5G has been launched in India, where it will go on sale from August 4 in black, blue and white colors. Prices for individual memory variants are set as follows:
4/128 GB for INR 10,999 (approx. 3,000 crowns with VAT) 6/128 GB for INR 12,499 (approx. 3,400 crowns with VAT) 8/256 GB for INR 14,499 (approx. 3,800 crowns with VAT)
We cannot confirm or deny the availability of the Redmi 12 5G on the Czech market at the moment, but we estimate that it should reach us in the coming weeks.
