“that was my job when I met her — driving a fancy car, a Mercedes, taking them from a fancy, five-star hotel on a tour of eight, nine hours,” Isidoro said.“You give them facts about history, about our culture, you take them to restaurants.”

Isidoro was content with his life in Sorrento. He had never married and had no children, dedicating himself to his work and his love for his homeland.

“My life was set in Sorrento,on the Amalfi Coast,” Isidoro stated.

When he first met Monica and her husband, isidoro initially perceived them as just another affluent American couple seeking to experience the beauty of the Amalfi Coast. He had observed a pattern over the years: the American men tended to be more casually dressed, while the women were always impeccably styled.

“When you work every day, everyday you pick clients from the hotels in Sorrento, Positano … they look all the same,” he explained.

Feeling terrible about the cancellation, Monica reached out to isidoro to apologize. He had gone out of his way… she said. And that’s when we really started talking.

The cancelled Amalfi Coast trip occurred in mid-2018,during Monica’s divorce. Feeling guilty about the inconvenience caused to Isidoro, she expressed her remorse.

He was saying, ‘Don’t worry about it.’ I said, ‘Oh, in the USA, you know, time is money, and I just feel bad you made all these arrangements …’ Monica remembers.

Isidoro, somewhat surprised by Monica’s concern, recalls, She wanted to pay me for nothing.

When Isidoro posted about the Italian classic Cinema Paradiso, Monica shared how much the film had moved her when she saw it as a student in the 1980s. Just as Monica and Isidoro were settling into a rhythm of long-distance visits, the COVID-19 pandemic struck, imposing travel bans that separated them across continents. “It was almost 300 days,” monica recounts, highlighting the immense challenge they faced. in late 2020, Monica traveled to Italy to be with Isidoro, working remotely while spending time together. Seeing each other again was an emotional and unforgettable experience. She returned as soon as she could in 2021. During this time, Monica and Isidoro began discussing their future, persistent to ensure they would never be separated again. “We were desperate,” Monica says. “When you’re separated for that long, and everything seems so unsure… we were just trying to have a normal life together.” This desperation fueled their decision to take the next step.

The business aims to provide tourists with an authentic experience, as Isidoro describes it. he is passionate about sharing my passion about my history, my heart, my culture with visitors to Italy. Their shared love for Italy and its culture is at the heart of their business.

After living in the U.S., Monica and Isidoro decided to move to Italy. Monica felt that the high cost of living, demanding work hours, and poor work-life balance in the United States were detrimental to her health. They also believed their new business would flourish in Italy. This decision reflected their desire for a more balanced and fulfilling life.

We wanted to make more connections in Italy,to explore things,find things that were off the beaten path, she says,highlighting their desire for a deeper connection with the country and its culture. This move was about more than just business; it was about immersing themselves in a new way of life.

Monica made significant changes to facilitate the move. She put her belongings in storage, resigned from her position at Yale, and, together with Isidoro, purchased a home in Tuscany—a region that was new to both of them. These were significant sacrifices, demonstrating their commitment to their new life together.

The couple found their haven in Castiglione del Lago, a village in Umbria situated on the shores of Lake Trasimeno. It’s super peaceful hear, Monica says, highlighting the tranquility they have found in their new home.
