Rediscover the Bertranges forest

La Charite-sur-Loire. 07-16 An exhibition in Bertranges Saint-Pierre church. It is a very interesting exhibition that Les Amis de La Charité will offer this year. On this vast subject that is the forest of Bertranges, the association will invest the Saint-Pierre church, a place that it now knows after its exhibition last year.

With a scenography and in a decor that should surprise, the visitor will find himself immersed in the heart of these vast foliage, rich in a centuries-old past and a history that undoubtedly dates back to before the arrival of the Roman legions. The exhibition will not fail to return to an industrious past of which we find traces, such as this blacksmith’s stele that we find in Narcy, Guérigny and Nevers. Bottom then blast furnaces also testify to what was a great wealth.

But Bertranges and its past are also the Royal Forges of Guérigny, the history of the Lambiotte factories of Prémery, which can be found in the exhibition thanks to Sylviane Jurquet. It is also the evocation of the relationship of the forest with the priory of La Charité. But nowadays, another wealth has appeared with a very strong tourist vocation, thanks to the awareness of its natural heritage. Nature will obviously be present with its fauna, its flora, its magnificent landscapes, evoked among other things with the presence of paintings by artists. A space is also devoted to a child of the region who was able to bear witness to these values, Achille Millien, whose herbarium can be admired.

An exhibition that was made possible thanks to many supporters. The town hall of La Charité-sur-Loire and the community of communes Les Bertranges in the first place. But also to the Friends of old Guérigny, the Charlois house which promotes this forest, the National Forestry Office and individuals. And the first visitors didn’t wait for it to open to take a look, taking advantage of the presence of members of the association setting up the exhibition to get an idea.
