Redevelopment plan on McGuinness Boulevard completed

The city’s Department of Transportation is calling for a protected bike lane in its latest proposal for redesigning McGuinness Boulevard.

The lane would run in both directions from Calyer Street to Meeker Street in Brooklyn, one in each direction from 7 am to 7 pm.

The plan also calls for parking lots nearby on both sides at night to reduce traffic.

But some residents and local elected officials wanted the protected bike lane extended south of Calyer, to the Pulaski Bridge.where there are currently two lanes of traffic, no daytime parking … and one unprotected cycle lane in each direction.

The Department for Transport issued a statement saying: “The redesign of McGuinness Boulevard will make this corridor much safer for everyone, including motorists, pedestrians and cyclists.

They also say that the decision was based on the opinion of the community.

However, the group “Make McGuinness Safe” says: “Mayor Adams, for the third time, has revoked his McGuinness Boulevard road plan, to prioritize his donors over our lives.

“Apparently he has once again ignored the recommendations of his own Department of Transportation.”
