Redesign of local bus routes in the Bronx

The MTA provides more details on the redesign of the local bus network in the Bronx.

“The redesign of the Bronx local bus network is a transformational project that will make bus service in the district faster, more frequent and more reliable, as well as better connect Bronx residents to nearby subways” the MTA noted.

“We will implement the Redesign changes on June 26. As part of the plan, 13 Bronx bus routes will change and we will launch two new routes,” the MTA added in the redesign information.

“The new bus routes are simpler and more direct, with more frequent service and better spacing of bus stops. The goal is to improve commutes for Bronx bus riders and provide better service,” said said.

The announcement was made at the Fordham Plaza bus terminal.

The new plan seeks to better connect certain neighborhoods that do not have a subway line with train stations and with some neighborhoods in Manhattan.

New electric buses will also operate on this route and will have Wi-Fi.

The Commissioner of the Department of Transportation, Ydanis Rodríguez, said that it is essential to redesign this system to help working people.

“Most of the people who use the buses are people of color, who have a salary of less than 50,000 dollars a year. We are going to continue redesigning the bus system to connect the working class with the only way they have to go to work every day,” Rodríguez said.

The new system will start operating this Sunday.
