REDES – Capricornio TV: A YouTube presenter who gives a voice to the people of the neighborhood

Social networks and new technological devices have come to democratize the media in the Dominican Republic and the world.

In this sense, many talents who did not find the space to enter traditional media such as radio or television, today have on websites like YouTube, the place to have contact with their followers and publish content of interest.

This is the case of the young Pablo José Rodríguez, better known as Capricorn TV, who knew how to take advantage of the fact that the everyday things that happen in the neighborhoods lacked interest in other media, for him to give them importance.

“Nobody did it, or at least in this country, which was to go down to the neighborhoods and interview the lower class,” says Rodríguez, who is the host of the reality show “Flow Calle,” produced by Caribbean Cinemas.

It is a space dedicated to the search for urban music talents in the different Dominican neighborhoods and that can be enjoyed on Tuesdays and Thursdays through the Capricorn TV YouTube channel.

Launched last Tuesday 16, the program, which has eight episodes, has as general producer Riccardo Bardellino and the audiovisual direction of Jean Guerra.

Capricorn values that they have chosen him to host the reality show, and not some other known talent, but that he may not have the experience with the urban and neighborhood world that he has.

“The chemistry has worked because they (Bardelino, Guerra) know their world of film and production, and I give them tips from YouTube and they have taken a lot,” says the young presenter, when talking about the work with the team he has prepared Caribbean Cinemas. He understands that this opportunity has been obtained by the time in which the media lives, and explains that before “there was a type of trujillismo in everything”, but that now content creators like him are given the freedom to demonstrate that He has talent, which is the public that decides who is popular and who is not.

This too, according to Rodríguez, contributes to removing youth from the temptations offered by the streets. “Any talent who is at home doing nothing, instead of committing a crime, chooses to do something on YouTube, a project and, if he gets it, it changes his life,” he reflects.

He considers himself to be from the Herrera and Cristo Rey neighborhoods, and his closeness to the popular sectors has allowed him to allow the interviews he does with the “tigueres” and supposedly dangerous people on his channel to be fluid and confident. “In me they find the freedom to say what they want,” he says, speaking of what he posts on his channel.

As for the negative side that part of society observes in urban music, which is often branded as vulgar, which uses obscene and macho terms, it assumes that it is a problem of the Dominican culture. “Remember that we live in a third world country, and the new artists who are coming out now have a very open mind,” says Rodríguez, and that it cannot be limited to people who entertain themselves with these types of songs.

He adds that parents should be aware of what their minor children consume on social networks and other media.
