Red Sox right-hander Brayan Bello threw 72 pitches Wednesday in a start he made as part of an extended spring training in Fort Myers.
“He did well, he shot the ball well, the speed was there too,” Boston manager Alex Cora said. “Everything went well and everyone was pleased. Now, we have to see how he reacts over the weekend and see if he can do another [apertura] next week. He will go one of five innings again. We’ll see how it goes.”
Bello was placed on the 15-day disabled list by the Red Sox on March 30 with right elbow inflammation, the same problem that plagued him in the final month of last season.
Cora mentioned that the speed of the Dominican was around 94-95 miles per hour and he was able to move his pitches throughout his entire start.
The 23-year-old right-hander made his debut in 2022 with the Red Sox, with whom he posted a 4.71 ERA over 13 appearances (11 starts) in which he struck out 55 opponents in 57.1 innings.
