Red Smoke Accompanied by Lightning on Mount Welirang, This is the Explanation of BMKG and BPBD

East Java – The Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) said that Mount Welirang was still in normal status. Meanwhile, BPBD stated that the lightning and red puffs of smoke that occurred were Cumulonimbus (CB) cloud phenomena.

The appearance of lightning and red puffs of smoke above Mount Welirang which occurred around 17.00 to 18.00 WIB, Monday (12/13/2021) had shocked residents, including Batu City.

This phenomenon has also become a topic of discussion on social media. As uploaded by the Twitter account @Kukuharipambud1. This account asks whether Mount Welirang is erupting while sharing a video of the phenomenon.

“Did you hear about the eruption? Is it land ??” write @Kukuharipambud1 while tagging @infomalang and @bpbd_jatim, as seen by jatimnow.com.

The post was immediately responded to by BMKG Juanda in his account @infobmkgjuanda. In his post, BMKG Juanda said that the phenomenon had nothing to do with the active movement status of Mount Welirang, which was erupting.

“Thanks, friends, for the status of Mount Welirang, the info we got from https://t.co/zdVK4UGYw9. Still in normal status,” wrote the BMKG Juanda account.

Meanwhile, the Malang City BPBD in its Twitter account @bpbd_malangkota explained that the red smoke and lightning were lightning from the Comulonimbus (CB) cloud.

“According to @BMKGkarangploso’s explanation, the lightning is extreme weather that comes from Cumulonimbus (CB) clouds, this is normal when the day is hot, so usually CB clouds appear in the afternoon. Try googling CB clouds, it looks more or less like that,” wrote the Malang City BPBD account. .

The phenomenon on Mount Welirang had shocked the residents of Batu City. They are worried that this mountain will erupt, as happened to Mount Semeru.

Aris Prisma, a resident of Tlekung Village, Junrejo District, Batu City, said red smoke and flashes of smoke were clearly visible from his house.

“It’s clear, Mas, I’m worried. Hopefully nothing will happen. I don’t know what it is. Is it the weather or something,” said Aris.
